Hoppy Sell

Vice President of Marketing

Background
17 years of developing sales teams and implementing marketing plans frames his expansive knowledge empowering sales professionals with proven tools to enrich the lives of seniors and increase occupancy in their communities. His perspective, knowledge, and insights have helped create industry-leading marketing and sales programs with startup pre-sales, expansions, and repositioning phases. Previously, Hoppy supervised the corporate compliance department for Carolinas Healthcare System, one of North Carolina’s largest healthcare systems, where he cultivated relationships with healthcare executives and physicians. Hoppy holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hoppy serves on Spectrum’s Leadership Team.

Beliefs
One of my greatest passions as an advisor/mentor/coach is to create an excitement…a buzz…a quest for understanding.  There is nothing more rewarding than to see that “Aha!” moment in a residency counselor’s eyes; the realization that he/she “gets it” and now knows how to share it with prospective residents. Creative and critical thinking enables counselors to better understand the options that our customers are weighing.

Vision
As senior living continues to evolve to meet the desires and needs of the changing customer, there’s a promising traffic pattern starting to emerge that gives me hope for the future: the four-way intersection of great housing, hospitality, healthcare and holistic wellness.

Beliefs

Vision
A Life Plan Community should not be a place to go, it should be a place to grow.  The physical design, the opportunities for intellectual curiosity, and the dining that attracted past generations require much more innovation and choices for the next set of buyers and beyond.

Beliefs & Vision
There’s an old story about a man walking on the beach.  Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions. Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching.  As the boy walked, he would pause every few steps, bend over, pick something up and through it into the sea.   The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning!  May I ask what it is that you are doing?  The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.” The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”  The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

This is an exciting time for the Long Term Care industry, especially in Life Plan Communities.  We have the opportunity to make a difference. With a focus on wellness,   seniors are living healthier, longer.  We’re in a position to change the way people think about Life Plan Communities, because we can make a difference.

Beliefs
To operate and manage the senior living community “of choice” – the leadership must truly care about every resident and inspire a like-minded team to reach beyond the typical daily operational duties. It’s time to create a different type of lifestyle, program, menus, and social opportunity for the residents. Rewarding the team daily and setting the example everyday for acts supporting the mission, vision, and values of an organization. And finally, an organization must continue to invest capital into the community to keep it marketable for the next generation residents. Focus group feedback sessions can provide the insight to put a strategic plan in place.

Vision
• A partnership with Uber (Senior Uber Transport)
• Intergenerational Movement- a Hot Spot for access to free Consulting/advice to children/young adults entering the marketplace (college graduates) without fathers/mothers or support systems to help them achieve in the workplace.
• A senior living community should be a place where community residents can come to learn skills/talent/life skills from the past. Examples of true life long learning to transfer knowledge would include life skills such as quilting, canning, gardening, cooking, woodworking, etc.
• A wellness program that transcends all others and can meet the individual needs of each and every resident.
